INCOPA supports more stringent phosphorus emission limits in urban wastewater, with low carbon footprint inorganic coagulants

23 June 2022

As part of the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD), the European Commission is finalizing its assessment of the impact of lower thresholds for nitrogen and phosphorus discharges into the natural environment. This approach potentially concerns small wastewater treatment plants which will have to comply with it as well as the enlargement of sensitive areas.

INCOPA, supports this approach and indicates that physico-chemical phosphorus removal with iron and aluminium salts is the most cost-effective, circular and low carbon method to reach this goal.
